COURSE OVERVIEW :
Do you love the feeling of gliding with the current yet hate having to fight against it to get back to the boat or shore? Drift Diving is effortless and relaxing because you simply glide with the current and feel the rush of flying underwater. But, with this type of diving comes special procedures that you need to know so you can maximise your fun underwater.
The PADI Drift Diver specialty course teaches you how to enjoy rivers and ocean currents by “going with the flow”, staying with your dive partner, communicating with the dive boat and knowing where you are the whole time.
What you’ll learn
The PADI Drift Diver specialty covers planning and organising a drift dive, equipment considerations, techniques to control and maintain good buoyancy as well as guiding divers in the best method to ascend/descend and exit the water.
Across two boat dives you’re going to learn how to communicate with your dive buddy and practice the use of a DSMB to keep in touch with your dive boat on the surface.
You will also:
· Gain experience using drift diving equipment including floats, lines and reels.
· Get an overview of aquatic currents – causes and effects.
· Practice with buoyancy control, navigation and communication during two drift dives.
· Learn techniques for staying close to a buddy or together as a group as you float with the current.
The Scuba Gear You Will Use
All the equipment you will need is provided for the PADI Drift Diver Specialty. You'll use all the basic scuba gear including a mask and snorkel, fins, a wetsuit, a buoyancy compensating jacket (BCD) that carries the scuba tank, a scuba regulator to breathe from and gauges to monitor depth and air supply. Your PADI instructor will also teach you how to use a DSMB and practice with reels or spools to manage your line.
