Similar to driving a car, scuba diving requires specific knowledge, skills and training. Scuba diving uses a compressed air diving apparatus (scuba) to be able to breathe under water. The diving experience usually focuses on physical activity, fun, recreation, adventure and observation of the underwater world. To increase safety, diving is done in a buddy team or group. For scuba divers, there is a wide range of equipment and a wide range of dive training courses. In contrast to professional divers, there are no special legal regulations for recreational divers in most countries that would make a diving licence or a diving fitness examination mandatory. However, almost all diving centres require at least the presentation of a diving certificate from recognised associations such as CMAS, PADI or SSI for proof of diving training in order to avoid diving accidents. With the appropriate certification, diving can be done anywhere in the world.
